Tuesday 10th March 2020The importance of secure double glazing in your home
We all know just how important security is for our home. Protecting your family, valuables and property itself is vital, and that’s why we take security seriously here at Berben.
With advancements in technology and more sophisticated tools, the threat of break-ins and intrusions remains high across the West Midlands, and throughout the rest of the country.
That’s why keeping our homes protected from potential threats is so important, and the double glazing in your property plays a huge part.
Our windows and doors are the main entry points for burglars, and that’s why secure double glazing is so important. Double glazing is designed to be highly resistant against break-ins and will perform when it’s needed.
Why double glazing is so secure
Double glazing is designed with security in mind. We provide safe and secure PVCu windows that are not only renowned for their good looks, but their great security benefits too.
They offer impressive security features, from robust and sturdy PVCu frames, to highly secure locking systems and hardware.
All these features ensure our PVCu windows and doors achieve PAS 24 certification, which means they have been tested to the highest security standards.
Toughened glass
At the forefront of our secure double glazing is toughened glass.
Toughened glass is designed to be more durable, which makes it much harder to break, longer to break and noisier to break. This means that it will take intruders longer to gain access to your property, and will cause plenty of noise in the process, which will help alert others to their crime.
Strong and durable PVCu
PVCu is the ideal material to use when it comes to secure double glazing in your home. It brings great strength, resilience and robustness together to provide an all-round highly secure window frame that will help to maintain security levels. When you combine the strength and durability of PVCu with latest locking technology and secure double glazing, you achieve a really secure window design that will help to keep your home protected.
High security locking systems
At Berben we use high security multipoint locking systems to help secure our PVCu windows and doors.
Multipoint locking works by securing the window in several different places with one turn of a key, helping to increase the resistance of the windows against attacks.
Secure hardware Even our hardware and accessories are designed to have great security benefits too!
Our PVCu double glazing comes with Fab ‘N’ Fix inline handles that not only offer great looks, but enhanced security as well.
Secured by Design accredited
A great feature to look out for with secure double glazing is whether the windows are Secured by Design (SBD) accredited.
Secured by Design is an initiative by the Chief of Police Officers to help design out crime by advocating products that have the highest levels of security.
PVCu windows earn SBD accreditation if they offer police preferred security levels. At Berben, we provide an SBD upgrade for our range of PVCu windows for an added layer of security.

Friday 7th February 2020Our favourite colour options for windows and doors in 2020
When it comes to replacing your windows and doors, choosing colours can be a hard decision to make.
Coloured windows and doors can completely change the overall look and feel of your home, and with so many different colour options to choose from, it can sometimes feel like a minefield.
While trends in colour options may come and go, they are a great starting point for inspiration and can quite often spark lots of design ideas for your own home.
At Berben, we can provide you with all the help and advice you may need when it comes to choosing the right colours for your new windows and doors. And, we thought we’d start by sharing our favourite current and classic colour options that we offer for our range.

All the shades of grey

It’s no surprise that grey is top of the list. Grey has been a trending colour for a while now, and it is well and truly here to stay.
Grey’s a hugely popular colour trend across all aspects of life, from cars, to interior design. It was only a matter of time before the colour made a big impact on windows and door trends too.
Grey remains one of our most popular colour options and we have a selection of hues and tones available. Our most popular shade is Anthracite Grey, but we also have Slate, Signal, Basalt, Hazy and Agate Greys.

Sleek and simple

Contrasting with grey, another on-trend colour option is soft, sleek and simple neutral colours.
These softer, warm tones work perfectly amongst both modern and traditional style homes, adding a more muted, simple aesthetic.
Soft greens and creams are taking centre stage, with Dulux announcing it’s Colour of the Year for 2020 as ‘Tranquil Dawn’ – a soft and warm light green colour.
We have the perfect shade to match here at Berben, our Agate Grey has soft hints of green throughout and our Chartwell Green offers a richer, lighter green colour.
These sleek colours work particularly well for country cottages and barn conversions in Warwickshire and are perfect if you would like to add a touch of heritage style to your modern home.

Keeping it natural

Continuing with the sleek and simple theme, we are also loving the return in popularity for natural woodgrains.
Light or dark, classic or rustic, there’s so much versatility when it comes to woodgrain colours and opting for a natural effect can look amazing for both modern and traditional properties.
We have a whole range of woodgrain effect colour options to choose from, including Light Oak, Dark Oak, Irish Oak, Natural Oak, AnTeak, Rosewood and Mahogany.

Vintage style

With the move toward a more environmentally friendly attitude, we have seen the revival of vintage styles and fashions. A trend this year is to mix and match styles from various eras to create a true Retro look.
Bold colours such as deep greens, rich reds and sultry blues contrasted with calming neutrals are proving popular when it comes to windows and doors.
If you want to be bang on trend this year, choose our Steel Blue – a close match to Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 – Classic Blue!
Why not choose a sleek neutral colour on the outside with a stand-out bold colour on the inside for an ultimate vintage finish.

Paint it, black

If you’re looking for a truly sleek finish for your home, black is definitely a colour to consider.
Black framed double glazing has started to increase in popularity over the last year, and we have seen more and more properties favour its sleek, simple and minimal looks, especially for city chic townhouses and apartments.
We have a Black Brown woodgrain finish that looks stunning inside and out on modern or traditional style homes.

What about white?

Whilst we’ve discussed our favourite colour options, white is still an ever popular colour choice for your windows and doors.
White windows look great installed in any style of home, and can offer a refreshed, upgraded finish that improves the overall look of your home.
We have white windows available in either a smooth finish or natural woodgrain finish to suit your tastes.

Our colour foil options

We use colour foiling to achieve our stunning window and door colour options. Colour foils work by permanently bonding a coloured foil to the glazing profile. It’s a super reliable method for achieving rich, stable colours for PVCu windows and doors, and latest technology means that the colour remain extremely resistant, so there’s no need to worry about it fading or discolouring.
As we use colour foils, there is also the option to choose a different finish for the inside and outside of your home.

Thursday 5th December 2019Does your home need new windows?
Windows play an important role in your home. The way they look, let natural light in, ventilate, insulate and provide security, all make a big impact on your home and your health.
It’s crucial to make sure that your windows perform well and keep your home as comfortable to live in as possible. Over time, old windows can lose their efficiency, especially old timber and aluminium windows. They might become draughty, not operate as well and even flake, peel or rot.
So, how do we know when our windows need replacing?
Luckily, there are lots of signs that you can look out for to know when it’s the right time to replace them.
To help, here’s our top five signs you need new windows in your home.
1.The window frames are looking worse for wear
One of the most obvious signs you need new windows, is if they look old and tired. Keeping older windows fresh can be hard work. PVCu windows may have become tired, and timber windows are more prone to flaking, peeling and rotting, which requires regular upkeep including painting and treating to keep them performing well. If your windows are past this point and are quite literally falling apart, it’s time to think about replacing them. A great benefit for modern windows is that they are engineered to last. New windows are made with high performance materials such as PVCu and aluminium, and are combined with thermally advanced glass, for an all-round robust, energy efficient and secure glazing option.
PVCu windows are a popular, great value choice to replace your old windows. They feature excellent styles that suit any property type and are super low maintenance, so you don’t have to worry about keeping them looking brand-new.We supply and install new PVCu windows, in a selection of styles to suit your home, including classic casement windows, traditional box sash windows and functional reversible windows.
2.Your heating bills are on the rise
If you’ve noticed an increase in the cost of your energy bills, and you’re not quite sure why, it’s probably because your windows aren’t insulating as well as they should. Poor insulation can leave your home susceptible to cold spots and draughts, which can cause it to become uncomfortably cold. It means that it’s likely you’ll keep the heating on more often than usual, which will see a rise in your bills.
Cold spots are areas near your windows where the warm air inside your room is sucked outside through a gap. It’s easy to check for cold spots and draughts. Simply hold your hand about 30cm away from your window and move around until you feel a draught.Installing new windows is a great solution to improve your home’s insulation and ventilation. At Berben, we supply thermally efficient PVCu windows with double or triple glazing options. All our windows meet and exceed industry standards for energy efficiency, ensuring that you will always receive a high quality, energy efficient installation that will provide your home with a comfortable living environment.
3.You want to change the style or colour of your windows
Windows play a huge part in the overall look and feel of your home. Therefore, if you’re not happy with the style, design or colour of the windows, updating them is a great option.New windows can completely transform a property, from adding a modern touch, or even a classic style, the choice is all yours.
What makes modern windows so great, is that there are an abundance of design options to choose from to suit your tastes, home and lifestyle perfectly. Our windows can be tailored to you, with a full selection of styles, colours, finishes, hardware and accessories to match. We have both PVCu and aluminium windows to choose from, in classic casement, box sash and reversible designs.
4.Your windows don’t block out noise very well
Do you seem to hear everything that happens outside your windows? Maybe you hear all the traffic passing by or hear people’s conversations from the street. If you’re always wishing for a bit more peace and quiet, your windows probably aren’t very soundproof.Old windows are renowned for allowing noise pollution to seep through, however this needn’t be an issue.Ask us about acoustic windows with double or triple glazing. They are manufactured to absorb sound waves before they enter your home, keeping the noise away.
5.You’re worried about the security of the windows
Windows help to ensure your home remains as safe and secure as possible and protect against potential intruders. If you’re unsure if the windows in your home are secure enough to resist burglars, new windows may be the solution.
As windows are often one of the main entry points for unwanted visitors, it’s essential that windows feature the highest levels of security available.
New windows are designed with latest locking technology, robust frames and secure double or triple glazing to provide ultimate security for your property.
A great way to understand how secure your new windows are, is to see what accreditations they have. Our windows are PAS 24 and Secured by Design (SBD) approved. SBD is an accreditation by the Association of Chief Police Officers and is an initiative that has been created to design out crime. To achieve this accreditation, our windows have passed rigorous safety and security tests, ensuring they provide sufficient protection against potential break-ins.
